infobox person is the main infobox dealing with people who have appeared on The Graham Norton Show. To use, simply copy and paste the whole of the following code onto your page, at the very top of that page.[1]

Understanding the variables

Unlike many infoboxes you may have encountered on Wikia, this one is largely self-linking, and it automatically puts the page into several categories. This means that you just have to enter the name; you don't have to also enclose that name in brackets like this. Nor do you have to put the page into any categories other than the one this infobox assigns to it.

Best practices

Here's an idea of how to best use the variables in the template:

• image = Images should be drawn of the person as seen on TGNS — not general publicity photos. Image width is fixed firm at 300px, so be sure your image has that minimum width. You do not need to type , just image.jpg.
• caption = Optional image caption. The best captions would be ones that gave the episode number from which the pic was taken.
• type = This is the only required variable in the whole infobox because it controls how the infobox will appear. You must enter one of the following types: host, featured guest, musical act, surprise guest, red chair victim or audience member.[2]
• job = Jobs the person is known for: director, producer, actor, singer, etc. These will be linked to Wikipedia articles, so please make sure there's a Wikipedia article at the end of the link.
Note that you should not use the term "writer" as it's a little imprecise. Please use
• screenwriter for theatrical or televisual writers
• author for most writers who work primarily in print
• journalist for writers who work for periodicals (or who self-identify as such)
• blogger for people who primarily share their opinions online
• known = Titles of films, movies, albums or songs for which the person is known. This variable is automatically linked to the Wikipedia page on the subject, and it's automatically italicised.
• member = Like known, this variable automatically links to a Wikipedia page. This is meant mainly for musical group names, like The Beatles, but it could conceivably be used for political party or other group affiliation, like Monty Python.
• music genre = For musicians only, you can list here the musical genre(s) for which they are best known.
• promote = Titles of films, movies, albums or songs for which the person was on TGNS. This variable is not automatically linked so that you can use iw for intra-Wikia links or wi for Wikipedia links. Generally, we'd prefer Wikia links, but if the Wikia on the subject isn't well-created yet, go for the more useful Wikipedia link. If the person was not promoting a specific product, just put self.
• award = This is for simple, one-word names of big awards they've won: Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Tony, BAFTA, Logie
• appearance = Entry here must be precisely in this format: Series 1 Episode 12. Please note capitalisation, spacing and lack of leading zeros. The reason it's so important to have precision in the formatting is that the information is then used to populate categories. If you use Series 01 episode 12, and another user settles on S1E12, then two different categories will be created.[3]
• vid = For videos to be included in the infobox. As with images, above, all you need is the title of the page. So Video name is all you need — not .

Footnotes

1. Although it's not strictly necessary to copy every single bit of the code in order to get the template to work, it helps make entry by the new VisualEditor a bit easier, since they won't then be required to add new variables as needed.
2. Red chair victims and audience member infoboxes will not have the curriculum vitae section.
3. In order to limit the size of the infobox, and to make things read more easily, the infobox will display "Series 1 Episode 12" as "S1E12". But the actual links are to Series 1 Episode 12.
4. This demonstration will not show every aspect of the infobox. The code prevents the creation of categories in the template namespace, so if you want to the automatic categories created by this code, please proceed to Tom Hanks.
